It was alongside Jean Smith that I was introduced to the practice of Uechi Ryu., shortly after starting Shiatsu training at his Shen Dao school in 2020.
Previously, my karate journey was divided and punctuated by several stages linked to my personal and professional life path, but also through the meetings I was able to make…
Martial arts have always been quite present in my family and for as long as I can remember, I always wanted to do it… My father introduced us very young, my sisters and me, to the cult of Bruce Lee! ^^ Moreover, his older brother, Antoine Le Conte, was a highly respected Viet Vo Dao grandmaster (Maître Vinh Long). I remember that during the rare family gatherings where my uncle was present, my father asked me to perform a kata in front of him. I was very intimidated, because my uncle always looked at me intensely, without saying a word...
The neighborhood where I grew up offered little more than judo and karate at that time. It is therefore towards Shotokan karate that I turned from the age of 7 years, with Thadée Halcewicz, in Poissy in Yvelines (78). Practicing karate had a strong impact on my childhood and taught me great values such as commitment., perseverance, combativeness, respect… At the age of 13 years, Thadée put me in the adult class. This step allowed me to start Matayoshi Kobudo, whose teaching depended on Zenei Oshiro, and strengthen ties with other members of the dojo, especially my “Senpai”, which I then considered as a second family.
A 20 years, when I had just validated the technical part of my black belt passage, I decided to stop martial arts for a while, in order to devote myself to other projects… A truce which ultimately lasted 12 years, during which I obtained a professional transfer to Toulouse, just after the birth of my only daughter in 2011.
It is therefore in 2016 that I took up karate, determined to reconnect with the passion I had as a child, and obtain the black belt. I set out to find a Shotokan dojo in Toulouse, since at the time, I only knew that… My choice fell on the AMTM, a club led by Christian Ganot, very focused on technique and kata competition. The training with Christian led me to quickly regain a good technical level, thus allowing me to validate my 1he And, then the second, but also to obtain some results in competitions.
However, curiosity and the desire to learn more led me to participate in different courses. This is how I discovered, during a seminar organized by Jean Smith, Uechi Ryu and Martial Karate, represented respectively by Yukinobu Shimabukuro and Guy Sauvin. I was immediately seduced by the traditional aspect, concrete and realistic which emanated from their approach. Later, I understood that this was basically what I was looking for…
Today, I continue to follow the teaching of Guy Sauvin, whose transmission is essentially based on principles applicable to all styles of karate; as well as Jean Smith, en karate Uechi Ryu et kobudo Koburyu.
In parallel with the Mauzac Shubukan club, in which I participate in the life of the club as office secretary and teacher of children's classes, I practice and teach shiatsu and martial arts through my own association called Shōkai, in my town of residence in Balma, since the start of this season.
Recently, I returned from my first trip to Okinawa, whose goal was to meet the representatives of Uechi Ryu and Koburyu, and train in their dojos. I experienced moments of rare intensity there, unforgettable encounters and rich teaching, which comfort me more than ever in the path I have chosen.
